Siddha System of medicine is an ancient medical system prevailed in the southern parts of India. This system was put forward by Great siddhar, who were ancient scholars in spirituality, medicine and alchemy. The system was grown through thousands of years and is not an overnight invention. Siddha is the first system to emphasize health as the perfect state of physical, psychological, social and spiritual components of human being. Thirumoolar, the great Saint said that

"One that cures Physical ailment is medicine
One that cures psychological ailment is medicine
One that prevents ailment is medicine
One that bestows immortality is medicine"

In Siddha the medicines are prepared after so many complicated processes and after proper purification. Plants, minerals, animal products and even metals are used in the pharmacological processes.

So many special drugs and preparation methods are described in the classical text books of Siddha. They will cure wide range of diseases from simple fever to cancer.

Kayakalpa is special combination of medicine and life style described in Siddha system. Many plants are classified as special and some others are ordinary kayakalpa plants, which can be used for managing the geriatric complaints like ageing, gray hair, wrinkles on skin etc. The utility of kayakalpa in the geriatric care as an antioxidant is really amazing.

Varma is the uniqueness of Siddha system. Varma points are vital points of our body where pranic flow is more. These points are used to cure diseases by stimulating such points in prescribed manner.

Alchemy, muppu ( the universal Salt ) etc are some other specialties of Siddha system of medicine.

In the present scenario Siddha system of medicine plays a vital role to combat against viral infections such as Dengue fever. It is an acute febrile illness caused by arthropod borne virus, the global prevalence of which has grown dramatically in recent decades.
